Missing Operating System
Error in loading operating system

When you start your computer, you may receive error message: Missing Operating System, Error in loading operating system which can be due to the following cases

• Missing or corrupted boot files
• No active partition defined in the partition table
• MBR located on the hard drive is corrupted
• BIOS does not detect the hard drive
• Any virus formation

Solutions

• You have to make sure that all settings in BIOS are correctly configured
• Run FDISK and check that the valid partition is set active, if not set the valid partition active

When you try to install Microsoft Windows XP or upgrade to Windows XP on a computer that runs Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows ME, after the first restart during the installation you may receive the error message. It can be due to the following reasons.

• Non-bootable disk is used for booting the system
• Hard disk is not properly setup in BIOS
• No proper configuration with boot.ini file
• Attempting to upgrade from Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32
• New hard disk drive being added
• Corrupt boot sector / master boot record (MBR)
• Location of MBR is changed by the virus attack

Solutions

• Check the BIOS setting if properly configured
• New hard disk should be properly configured. (Should not be the master drive)
